You have a story worth sharing, and someone out there needs to see it.
On Saturday, September 12, Project Turnabout is hosting Created in Recovery, our alumni picnic and celebration of the creativity that lives in our recovery community. We are inviting alumni to come back, bring their families, and share the creative work that has become part of their story. Maybe you paint. Maybe you write. Maybe you play guitar, take photographs, do woodworking, or bead. Whatever your gift is, we want you there.
Somewhere right now, there is a person three weeks into treatment who is not sure recovery is possible. They are doing the hard work, but they cannot yet picture what life on the other side looks like. Then they meet an alum who is five years sober, laughing with family, and playing a song they wrote.
When you show up, you give people something no counselor or brochure can. You are living proof that recovery works. Someone in early recovery can look at you and see that a good life is really possible, because you are standing right there living it.
Being there for people in early recovery helps you too. Alumni tell us all the time that giving back makes their own recovery stronger. When you share your journey, your creativity, and your time, you stay connected to the community that helped you build your new life. Recovery is not something we do alone, and celebrating it should not be either.
That is really what this day is about. Your long term success deserves to be celebrated. Every year of sobriety, every relationship you have rebuilt, and every painting, poem, or song that came out of your journey shows what is possible. We want to honor all of it with good food, music, and the company of people who understand the road you have traveled.
The day begins with an inspirational speaker at 11 a.m., the picnic opens at noon, and the afternoon runs until 4 p.m. The event is free for alumni and their families.
We hope you will sign up, bring your family, and share whatever creative gift is part of your story.
