Project Turnabout's Step-by-Step Care is a planned, structured progression through treatment that reduces risk by gradually stepping down support while maintaining accountability and connection.
ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
Our Step-by-Step Care delivers predictable, continuous support until recovery is stable and long-term success is possible.
A continuum of care means you are not left to figure recovery out on your own after one program ends. Support stays in place as you move through each phase, until life feels steady and manageable again.
Project Turnabout provides care through three primary levels, designed to work together as a step-down system:
Residential Treatment (ASAM 3.5)
Learn MoreHigh-intensity residential care for stabilization and early recovery.
Residential Step-Down Treatment (ASAM 3.1)
Learn MoreLower-intensity residential care that builds independence while maintaining structure and accountability.
Outpatient Treatment (IOP and OP)
Learn MoreStructured outpatient care that supports recovery while individuals return to work, school, and family life.
Why a Continuum of Care Matters
Addiction does not happen quickly, and recovery does not either. The thinking patterns, behaviors, and life challenges that lead to substance use develop over time and take time to understand and change.
Recovery cannot be rushed into a day, thirty days, or even a single year. It is a lifelong process of learning how to meet life on life’s terms.
Our Step-by-Step Care is built to support that reality by giving you the time, structure, and guidance to build a new foundation, a healthier way of thinking, a strong support network, and a more stable way of engaging with life.
The Science of the Step-Down Approach
Recovery works better when care is reduced gradually, not abruptly.
Research shows that long-term recovery outcomes improve when treatment is delivered as a structured continuum rather than a single episode. Step-down care aligns treatment intensity with a person’s changing needs, reducing relapse risk and strengthening stability during life transitions.
How our Step-Down program works.
Continuous support, structured over time, so recovery has a chance to last
As you stabilize, your program grows and changes with you, moving from more intensive support to less intensive care over time. Each step is designed to match where you are in recovery, from counseling support to practical life help to get you back on your feet.
ASAM 3.5
ASAM 3.5: High-Intensity Residential Treatment
24-hour structured care for people who need stability, safety, and a strong foundation to begin recovery
- Provides a highly structured residential environment with daily therapy, counseling, and recovery planning
- Supports individuals whose substance use has significantly disrupted thinking, behavior, or daily functioning
- Focuses on stabilization and skill-building to prepare for step-down to lower levels of care
ASAM 3.1
ASAM 3.1: Residential Step-Down Treatment
Structured residential support for people who are stable enough to practice recovery, but still need daily guidance and accountability
- Provides a safe, structured living environment with ongoing counseling, peer support, and recovery programming
- Helps individuals rebuild daily life skills such as employment, routines, relationships, and community connection
- Bridges the gap between high-intensity residential care and outpatient treatment, reducing relapse risk during transition
Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Structured treatment that supports recovery while you begin living your daily life again
- Provides multiple weekly therapy sessions that maintain accountability while allowing work, school, and family responsibilities
- Focuses on practicing recovery skills in real-world situations with continued clinical and peer support
- Serves as a critical bridge between residential care and greater independence, helping stability hold as structure gradually decreases
OUTPATIENT
Outpatient Program (OP)
Ongoing support that helps sustain recovery as independence and stability grow
- Offers regular counseling and group support with fewer weekly hours, fitting into work, family, and daily life
- Reinforces recovery skills, healthy decision-making, and long-term relapse prevention
- Provides continued connection and accountability as individuals transition fully into independent living
