Looking Ahead

“The future depends on what you do today.”

—Mahatma Gandhi

RECOVERY OPENS NEW DOORS

It's been nearly two weeks since you left ...that's a huge accomplishment. Now it’s time to look ahead. Recovery isn’t just about what you’re leaving behind, it’s about what you’re moving toward: peace, health, relationships, and the life you truly want. Even if the future feels uncertain, every choice you make today is building it.

DID YOU KNOW?

Studies show that people who set a short-term vision or goal for recovery are up to 2x more likely to maintain progress compared to those who only focus on “not using.” Having something to move toward matters.

Try This Today

  • Picture Your Future

Close your eyes and imagine yourself six months from now if you keep going strong. What’s one thing that would look or feel different? Write it down as your recovery vision.

  • Write a Letter to Your Future Self

Jot down a short note to the version of you who is six months sober. Thank them for staying the course and remind them what you’re working toward. Keep it somewhere safe and return to it when you need motivation.

  • Create a Visual Reminder

Find or draw one image that represents the future you want in recovery—a calm place, a strong version of yourself, or a meaningful goal. Put it where you’ll see it daily as a reminder of what you’re building.
